Book Talk on Food Industry

This is a visit by Iowa author Austin Frerick who has just published his first book: Barrons: Money, Power, and the Corruption of America’s Food Industry.

  • Why don’t farmers and other growers get a fair price for the raw materials that are processed to make the food we eat?
  • What affects the price of food and why do we see inflation?

Frerick will be speaking on his research for the book.  He deals with the ways lax enforcement of laws has lead to monopolies in our food economy by studying a number of different families whose business is food.  Finally, he offers suggestions about what we can do to advocate for breaking up trusts.
