DESCRIPTION:Cancer in Monroe County\n(Cancer in Iowa Listening Tour)\nIowa has the second-highest cancer rate in the U.S.\, and we are among the only two states where cancer rates are increasing. \nThe Iowa Environmental Council and The Harkin Institute announced the launch of a new initiative that explores the relationship between environmental risk factors and cancer rates in Iowa. The initiative combines a rigorous review of existing academic research about environmental risk factors and their sources with a statewide campaign to listen to\, understand\, and amplify Iowans’ own lived experiences with cancer. \nOn July 8\, we’re coming to the Albia First Christian Church to hear from Monroe County residents (although folks from any county are welcome to attend). \nHave you or your family been impacted by cancer? Join us to: \n\nhear a short presentation about cancer and health data in Monroe County;\nlearn about a new project that explores the links between cancer and environmental risk factors;\nshare your own story and listen to others’ stories.\n\nAttendance is free and open to the public\, but registration is required for all attendees. \nListening sessions are hosted by the Iowa Environmental Council\, The Harkin Institute\, and the Iowa Farmers Union. \nRSVP for the Monroe County Listening Session
